A week after the epic Thanksgiving 2024 storm that stifled some holiday plans, another storm is on the horizon. A winter storm watch is in effect for Otsego County beginning at 1pm tomorrow.

According to the National Weather Service:

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE...Onondaga, Madison, Southern Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, and Otsego counties

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

The winter storm watch expires at 4am on Friday. Right now, our area is dealing with sometimes heavy bands of lake effect snow flurries which should peter out by this evening.

In my opinion, the watch will flip over to a warning at some point tomorrow. If the storm impacts the area as predicted, there will be school and organizational closures, and a whole lot of mess to deal with yet again.

As always, we'll keep you updated with news about the weather as it comes in. Please listen to NOAA Weather Radio or go to weather.gov on the Internet for more information about the these hazards.
