Winter Storm Warning Issued For Central New York

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service at Binghamton, from Wednesday January 1st at 2:00 pm until 10:00 am on Friday January 3rd.

The forecast is for a significant winter storm to spread accumulating snow across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania. Snow is expected to be heaviest Thursday afternoon and night, before tapering off to snow showers Friday morning. Snow accumulations are expected to range from 5 to 12 inches by Friday morning.

Strong northerly winds are forecast to follow the storm, leading to considerable blowing and drifting snow and accompanied by dangerously cold wind chills. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as minus 25 degrees for late Thursday night and Friday morning.

Impact: Hazardous travel. Poor visibility at times, especially Thursday night. Dangerously cold wind chills Thursday night and Friday morning.

Instructions: A Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Travel will become dangerous. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
