Blame whoever you want, because many will have different opinions, but the fact of the matter is, gas prices continue to rise.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has reported gas prices have increased an average of four cents in New York as well as the entire country. Some New York cities are seeing prices increasing up to eight cents more per gallon.

The average price of gas in New York State according to AAA is currently at $2.60. The average price per gallon for regular gas in Binghamton is $2.59. Last week, the average price for regular gas in Binghamton was $2.55. One month ago, we paid an average of $2.45 and one year ago, that average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Binghamton area was $2.54, so we are paying about 4 cents more per gallon currently that we at this time in 2020.

In Pennsylvania, prices have been much higher than in New York for a while now, and looking at the Scranton and Wilkes-Berre area according the AAA, regular gas prices are now averaging $2.77 per gallon. Last week, the average price per gallon was $2.70. A month ago, the price was $2.63 and one year ago, the average price of regular gas per gallon was $2.65. That translates to about a 12 cents per gallon increase from 2020.

It has been reported that gas prices will continue to rise for now. The U.S. Energy Information Administration notes that gas prices will most likely increase due to the drop of crude inventories and increases in utilization. At least we almost level with last year...at least for now.
