A fire this past Saturday destroyed a cabin near Portlandville, NY.  According to AllOtsego smoke and fire could be seen through the trees on Route 28 north of Portlandville as the Milford Fire Department responded to the blaze at the end of Fritts Road near the Susquehanna River. There were no reports of any injuries and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Another fire was reported by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office. It was a sizeable brush and grass fire on State Highway 51 in the Town of Morris on Saturday. The Sheriff's Office was asked to come to fire fighters' aid by bringing traffic control and ATV's to the site to help in fighting the blaze (see below).  There was no other information released so it's not known how the fire started. According to the Morris Fire Department, fire assistance came from multiple area fire crews including the West Lauren’s fire department, Gilbertsville Fire Department, Garrattsville Fire Department, Laurens EMS, Mount Vision Fire and the Otsego County sheriffs department.

Morris Fire Chief Gary Carson commented, "The Mutual aid team effort between every department in this area is one of the finest I have ever seen. And I would like to be able to shake each and every members hand just to tell you how proud of all of you I am. You all have some great leadership and great team effort skills."
