We often talk about the "good ol' days" but we forget about things we are happy to leave behind.  Here's my list of things I don't miss from days gone by.  Please feel free to add to this list on our Facebook page.

  • cassette tapes.  Cassettes would always get chewed up in the player eventually.
  • cassette “Walkman”. Batteries ran out fast and you had to lug all those tapes around.
  • TV rabbit ear antennaes.  Who could ever tune it in perfectly?
  • Having to buy the TV listings.  It was the only way to find out what was on.
  • Black and white TV.  That was lame.
  • Party phone lines.  You weren't just sharing a phone line with your family members, you also had to share with your neighbors who felt the need to listen in on your private conversations.
  • Pay phones.  I never seemed to have enough change handy.
  • Typewriters.  I was a big white-out hater.
  • Rotary phones.  It seemed I'd always miss a number and have to re-dial.
  • Camera flash cubes.  Just another thing to buy and lug around.
  • Non-digital 35 mm cameras.  Point, click and hope for the best.  If you were lucky, one third of the photos came out okay.
  • Heavy metal drive-in movie theater window speakers.  Many of them were usually broken.
  • 5M computer floppy discs.  You had to have a ton of them them because they didn't hold much information.
  • Waiting for the cashier to “key in” every item.  We didn't realize how long it took to go through the grocery line before scanners.
  • Having to go through an operator to make a long distance call.  What a pain!
  • Having to dial “information” to find out someone's or a business’ phone number.
  • Going to the Department of Motor Vehicles for everything.  Now you can renew vehicle registration on-line.
