I have so many memories wrapped around the books that I read as a child. Books that I carted around everywhere with me and handled so much that not only did they become dog-eared, but the oils from my fingers faded the artwork ink on the front covers.

Harry the Dirty Dog was one of my favorites. I also loved The Saggy Baggy Elephant and Harold and The Purple Crayon. When I got a little older, I graduated to the Ramona books and then to Sweet Valley High. But, my favorite book as a young person was Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt.

My family jokes that I loved to read from the time I exited my mother's womb and they're not wrong. My earliest memories are of my mom reading Mother Goose and Other Nursery Rhymes. There was the "There Was A Crooked Man," and "Old Mother Hubbard." You know, all of the nursery rhymes that are not considered PC today but that each of us still carries in our hearts.

Books are such a huge part of life for so many of us and even if you're not an obsessive reader like I am, I'm sure that you have some memory tucked into the back of your mind that has to do with a book. Perhaps it was sitting on your grandma's lap while she stroked your hair and read to you. Maybe it's the time you got sick and spent hours reading the books stacked up on your bed.

Grand Canyon University pulled data to see which children's book was the most searched for book in each state. The University concluded the top five most popular children's books in the United States are: The Cat In The Hat, The Poky Little Puppy, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and Yertle The Turtle.

All five titles are wildly popular so New York's favorite children's book must be on that list, right? Actually, No. New York shares its favorite children's book with California and Idaho and our favorite book of all time is none other than The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
