Dust off your dancin' shoes.  Here comes some free, big time polka fun tomorrow night in Neahwa Park in Oneonta with Fritz's Polka Band from Verona, NY.  The City of Oneonta sponsors a summer music series in Neahwa Park every Thursday evening at 7p.m. through August 15th. The series is held in the city's portable bandstand. In the event of rainy weather, the performance will take place in the large pavilion.

So's let learn a bit about Fritz's Polka Band. FPB got together in 1978, formed by lead accordionist, the late Fred Scherz Sr., and his eight-year old son, Fritz, for whom the band was named. After Fred passed away in 2009, FPB carried on the polka legacy that Fred had started.  The band plays everything from modern-style polka to country,  rock and even blues. FPB performs an eclectic mix of musical styles and are not an oompa pa band like the stereotypical "polka" band.  They are known for breaking the stereotype regarding "polka" music.

Here's some interesting trivia about Frizt's Polka Band: FPB is the first polka group to perform at a Woodstock Festival (Woodstock ’99)!    Also in 2011, FPB had two different songs appear on the hit cable TV show, 'Breaking Bad' seen on AMC. 'Grandparent's Polka' appears in episode #408 (Listen to the song below) and 'Here is Fritz's Polka Band' in the season finale, episode #413 (Face Off).  How cool is that?

I think it's safe to say that regardless of weather, you'll have a good time with Fritz's Polka Band in Neahwa Park.  Bring your lawn chair and enjoy this free concert!
