In a major move within the fast-food industry, Burger King's parent company, Restaurant Brands International, has announced its plans to acquire an Upstate New York restaurant group.

The New York State Thruway is in the process of overhauling all 27 of the rest areas. Although they are only working on a handful at a time, the renderings have been revealed. Not only will they be more of an open concept, but some will also have dog parks and all will have better food options. Look for Shake Shack, Panera, Starbucks, Panda Express, Chik-fil-A, Popeyes, Dunkin, Burger King, and a new fresh concept Applegreen convenience stores. Taste NY farm markets will be at each rest area along with play areas and picnic areas. There will be amenities for commercial truck drivers including more truck parking, showers, fitness centers, and laundry facilities.

I've seen some fairly wild promotions between top competitors in the fast food market before but this could be the wildest and most confusing yet.

The ongoing war between McDonald's and Burger King heats up in September with a unique menu item addition at the popular chains. McDonald's announced that it would begin carrying bone-in chicken wings, available in nine different sauces. It will have a limited launch in early September. The chicken wings should be available nationwide by Sept. 24.

The phrase  "It's the simple things in life" rang true for me yesterday when I succumbed to a craving for a Burger King Whopper.  Now, I must tell you that every time I've ever eaten one of these, there's nothing pretty about it.  It's saucy and sloppy and gets all over my hands and face.  The mess of it all seems unavoidable, well, until now.
