Super Spreader Delta Variant Swaggers Into Otsego County: New COVID Cases Reported

Area residents in Otsego County have been wondering, "When is the Delta COVID-19 virus going to get here?" We all knew it was just a matter of time. Well, according to the Otsego County Department of Health, this super spreader of a COVID variant has arrived and case numbers are beginning to rise again after a nice stretch of low case numbers. I guess we all got too confident?

Comparing the case numbers reported last week by The Otsego County Department of Health (7/24), there were no hospitalizations for persons with complications from the virus and there were only 3 known active cases in the county. It's a different story now. As of yesterday (7/29) the health department reported 6 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 20. Considering that the Delta variant is known to spread much easier and quicker than any other variants we've been exposed to locally, this is certainly unsettling news. The potential for numbers to significantly increase quickly, especially among those not vaccinated, is great.  That's why health officials are encouraging those not vaccinated who are eligible to receive it, to get their shot as soon as possible. The Health Dept. has a COVID-19 dashboard with daily updates for the latest information.

Vaccine clinics for anyone 12 and older:
The Otsego County DOH will have a table near the EMT tent at the Otsego County Fair on August 3 and August 6 from 10:00-6:00, offering walk-up vaccine opportunities with both Pfizer (for 12 and up) and the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine (for those 18 and up). No appointment is necessary.
