In my opinion, summer arrives when Briggs Pool in Wilber Park in Oneonta opens for the season.  Yesterday was the first day of it being open and even though it wasn't a hot day, I noticed that there were still plenty of people enjoying the cool pool waters in the park yesterday afternoon. After all, why not enjoy it?  It's free for the community.  Another service that is provided for free from the City of Oneonta is the American Red Cross learn to swim program for babies 6 month old and up.  Children can go through the levels of progression until they reach level 7. Upon completion of level 7, they may enroll into lifeguard training or other programs.  It's a wonderful free service available to all Oneonta city and town residents and lessons begin soon.  My kids have been taking lessons ever since they were toddlers and they love it.

Briggs Pool open swim is open daily from 1pm to 6pm and family swim is 6pm to 8pm daily.  However, this week, the pool will open at 3pm through this Wednesday, weather depending.
