The last supermoon of 2021 will hang in the Upstate New York sky later this week and will appear for a good stretch of time.

Whether you are a consistent stargazer or just love to soak in the beauty of the nighttime sky on occasion, you will want to be looking up to the cosmos starting Thursday night for the 'Strawberry Moon,' the final supermoon of 2021 according to Yahoo. The moon itself of course does not change, but when it reaches the point in its orbit closest to Earth it appears to be supersized.

Yahoo says this moon was coined the Strawberry Moon not because of its appearance, but because of its timing around the annual strawberry harvest. This supermoon will be visible starting Thursday evening and will appear full for several nights, right through Saturday morning.

The Farmers' Almanac actually has a full schedule for our monthly full moons with their monikers. The Almanac says all of the full moon names came from Native Americans and they were used to track the seasons. From the Wolf Moon to the Pink Moon to the Strawberry Moon and on, each marks a specific time of the year.
