Sidney Troopers Make Felony Arrests

New York State Police at Sidney charged a 19 year old Afton man Sunday with 2nd degree assault and 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon. The arrest of Stephen Counterman Jr. (photo) occurred after troopers were advised of an assault that happened at a

campground on State Highway 7 in the Town of Afton. Troopers say an investigation determined that on September 19th Counterman had allegedly been in a dispute with a 53 year old man and allegedly struck him in the back of the head with a tree branch. Troopers say this strike caused a laceration to the victim which required medical attention at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Counterman was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 cash bail. His felony hearing is on Tuesday.
