Shooting Arrest Made

On the morning of September 4, 2024, around 8:08 a.m., New York State Police and Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a shooting incident on the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in Hancock. A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation, Robert K. Trago Jr., a 60-year-old resident of Hancock, NY, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree, a class "A-I" felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class "D" felony.

Trago Jr. was apprehended near Margaretville just before 3:00 p.m. and taken into custody. He was processed at SP Binghamton and later transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Broome County Sheriff's Department, Hancock Ambulance, Hancock Fire, and AMR/Delaware County Ambulance.

On September 5, 2024, Trago Jr. was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility with bail set at $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, or $400,000 bond.

Dump Truck Crashes Into Deposit Home

According to state police, on September 6, 2024, at approximately 3:11 p.m., New York State Police at Deposit responded to a crash involving a dump truck that collided with a residence on Old Plank Road in the town of Sanford.

The 29-year-old male driver of the dump truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the crash, three people were inside the residence. A 10-year-old boy was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries. A 22-year-old man was unharmed, and a 40-year-old woman received treatment from EMS at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Personnel from the Troop C Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit were on-site. They were assisted by Deposit Fire and Eastern Broome EMS.
