Schoharie Gallery To Remember Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee

Few events in our area touched so many lives as did the ravages of Hurricane Irene and the follow-up Tropical Storm Lee in 2011.  The damage to our region was severe and the comeback in our area has been long and arduous. Now, ten years later, a local gallery will commemorate these indelible events with two exhibit openings.

On August 28, 2021, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., the Cultural Hall of the Schoharie River Center will play host to twin exhibitions.

After the Storms: 10 Years and 36,000+ Volunteers Later is a multi-media exhibit developed to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the flooding of the Schoharie basin caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011 and to recognize the volunteers who made recovery possible for residents and business owners.

Recovery, Resilience, and Renewal is a juried show of contemporary art and craft that comments upon current events and resiliency. In 2021, the world has experienced a worldwide pandemic, whilst in the midst of and intersecting with a rapidly changing climate and calls for racial and social justice reforms. Artists from throughout the region provide their commentary on 2021, chosen by jurors Steven Spretnjak, Miki Conn, and Jacquie Smith.

These programs are made possible with grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; Humanities NY; Documentary Heritage Program of the NYS Archives; FAM Funds; Midtel, and Stewart's Shops.
