Brimming with history

Schoharie County is overflowing with history. In the 1700s, it was known as "the breadbasket of the revolution" and was largely responsible for keeping George Washington's troops fed during the war. Today, remnants of revolutionary history can still be found across the county. There's forts and farms and museums too, you'll be delighted as you learn your way across the county.

Howe are there multiple caverns to explore?

See what I did there? Schoharie County has not one, but TWO underground expanses to check out, Howe Caverns and Secret Caverns. Howe Caverns was discovered by cows on May 22, 1842. No, seriously. Farmer Lester Howe noticed his herd convening near some bushes on a hot summer's day, Looking closer, Howe discovered the opening to the cave we all know and love today. Just down the road is Secret Caverns which is a groovy, funky alternative to Howe Caverns.

I said across Vroman's nose, not up it!

One of the most iconic spots in Schoharie county is Vroman's Nose. The 1.5-mile loop trail near Middleburgh, New York will take you up to the payoff, a cliff overlooking the Schoharie Valley. What a sight to see! Natural beauty is seen for miles and miles no matter the season. Depending on the season, stop by all the produce stands for epic dinner ingredients.
