A Schenevus man, already charged in a child sex crime case, is now accused of rape.

New York State Police say 56-year-old Francesco Carontenuto had been arrested September 8 for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child before being arrested for Felony Rape on Saturday, September 17.

Authorities say they had arrested Carontenuto on the initial Class D felony counts after a visit to the Otsego County man’s home found images indicating child exploitation by way of the internet.

Authorities say while they were at the man’s property in the Town of Maryland they found what they say were other violations, but involving animals.

Troopers say they found seven adult dogs on Carotenuto’s property that lacked adequate food, water or shelter.

The dogs were turned over to the care of the Otsego County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The discovery of the dogs has resulted in Carotenuto also being charged with New York Agriculture and Market Law of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals.  That count is a misdemeanor.

The initial report from the New York State Police offered no information concerning what prompted the visit to the man’s home for the September 8th investigation.

The new count comes after Investigators say they learned that Carotenuto forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim several years ago

He was already being held in the Otsego County jail for the previous charge.

Following his arraignment on the new felony Rape charge, Carotenuto was returned to the correctional facility. Bail on the initial charges was set at $20,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
