‘Run For The Fallen’ Could Slow Traffic In Otsego County Saturday
For those of you who live in the northern part of Otsego County or plan on traveling there this Saturday, there's a special run happening on Saturday that may delay traffic along Route 20 according to New York State Police.
The event, "Run For The Fallen", is a three-day run covering 140+ miles. It starts on Friday from the Veterans and 9/11 Memorials at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse and finishes at the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at LaFayette Park in downtown Albany. This event honors New York fallen military members.
Along the course, there will be 43 Hero Markers, roughly every 2 to 4 miles. The run pays tribute to 870 heroes total. Each marker will have the date and time that a small group of running athletes carrying the American Flag, the New York State Flag, the Honor and Remember Flag, and the Honor and Sacrifice Flag will arrive at that marker. The runners will be met by veterans and/or supporters who will then bear the flags while a hero is honored. After respect is paid to the fallen hero. The athletes will continue on their way to the next marker and so it will continue along the entire course.
On the second day of the race (Saturday), as runners travel into Otsego County on Route 20, Police say that traffic delays will most likely happen around 11:00 a.m., from West Winfield through Richfield Springs and East Springfield. Runners will kick off their day at 7:00 a.m. in Clinton, NY and make their way to Sharon Springs. Click here to see the route or see below.
If you encounter runners participating in this event, please be patient and obey those directing traffic.
