If you're a nature lover and live in or near Oneonta, NY, are planning a visit to the area, then I have a great hiking/picnicking/fishing spot for you and your family that's close by--the Robert V. Riddell State Park, just off exit 17 (Cooperstown exit) of I88.  I have driven by this park a number of times and have wanted to check it out for quite a while now.  Finally, yesterday, I did and was pleasantly surprised at what I found.

Here's just a little history about this park. Originally, the Riddell Park with over 1000 acres was a gift from Patricia Riddell Kent and Steven Kent in memory of Patricia's father, Robert V. Riddell of Colliersville and her grandfather, Alton B. Riddell.

There are various trails are well maintained and wide with colored markers to distinguish the different trails.  Each trail is relatively short at around a mile or less each, making for easy family walking with picnicking opportunities along the way.  Plus, if you enjoy fishing, the Schenevus Creek runs through the north part of the park, offering up great fishing opportunities with beautiful scenery.  Don't take my word for it though.  Here's are some photos I took yesterday so you can get an idea of how pretty it is there.
