Happy Fork Report Friday!

Today, I'm focusing on a locally owned restaurant on Main Street that could use some community support. Boba Yaga serves bubble tea, crepes, ramen, sandwiches, rice bowls, and small plates that pull heavily from the Japanese street food repertoire.

Recently, they experienced some hardship and have posted a GoFundMe. Their fundraising goal is currently $5,000. As of today, they have raised almost $2,000.

We started this restaurant with a dream of bringing unique and tasty Japanese-American fusion food and Authentic Bubble Tea to our neighborhood. From our refreshing bubble tea to our hearty ramen bowls, we strive to offer a memorable dining experience. Your support will help us repair the damage, cover our expenses, and continue to serve the food you love."

Anastasia Roberts, one of the owners told me yesterday that the best way the community can support them is by stopping in and ordering some food. After my radio interview with Anastasia, I couldn't stop thinking about tonkatsu, or panko breaded pork, and did just that.

I went with their build your own bowl option. My version contained the aforementioned tonkatsu and chashu or Japanese BBQ pork over fresh noodles. Tossed in Japanese barbecue sauce, the bowl was a delight and brought me back to Vancouver's donburi shops. I was full and happy for the rest of the day.
