Remember when the Village of Cooperstown put in the electronic parking machines in Doubleday Field parking lot?  It was designed to target tourists and of course bring in needed income, but it ended up angering those that live and work in Cooperstown.  Now to put salt in that wound are new parking fees on Main Street, Chestnut Street and Pioneer Street in Cooperstown.

Beginning this weekend, on those streets, parking is limited to two hours with a price tag of $2 per hour.  The village does sell permits to park in the Doubleday Field parking lot and in the Fowler lot anytime except between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Wouldn't it be great for area residents, perhaps those who live within 30 miles of Cooperstown, to be offered a parking permit for Cooperstown, allowing them to park in Cooperstown for free?  It would certainly encourage locals to visit Cooperstown more often!  I think the lost parking revenue by that population would more than be made up in patronizing local businesses.
