Are you thinking about getting a pet?  It's always good to know what you're getting into when it comes to expenses.  In our house, my family has two cats and four goldfish.  According to the ASPCA, that costs us $1080 annually for both cats and an additional $20 per year for the fish (fish food).  Not cheap!  That doesn't include all the initial expenses like all the supplies you need (a pet carrier, litter box, spay/neuter fees, etc.).

For you dog owners, the costs rise as the size of your dog increases.  For example, a medium size dog costs you about $560 a year.  Again, that doesn't include start up costs.

I think a good rule of thumb is always budget more rather than less to be prepared for unexpected medical expenses.  Then enjoy your pet because no matter what type of pet you prefer, the joy you get from an animal friend far outweighs the cost, in my opinion.

With that said, you've got to watch this hilarious video of the "Cat alarm clock".
