Out of the Darkness Community Walk Set For Oneonta, New York
The Out of the Darkness Community Walks, held in hundreds of cities across the country, are a vital part of the movement to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Since their inception in 2004, these walks have become a powerful force for change, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to support one another and advocate for a more informed, compassionate approach to mental health.
The walks provide a safe and supportive space for participants to share their personal experiences and connections to the cause. Whether they have struggled with their own mental health, lost a loved one to suicide, or simply want to show their support, everyone is welcome to join. These events help break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues, encouraging open conversations and fostering a sense of community.
Walking side-by-side, friends, family members, neighbors, and coworkers form a united front, sending a powerful message of hope and solidarity. The collective action of walking together not only honors the memory of those who have been lost but also serves as a reminder that no one has to face their struggles alone.
The funds raised through the Out of the Darkness Community Walks support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) efforts to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. These walks are more than just events; they are a movement, creating a culture that is smarter about mental health and more compassionate toward those who are struggling.
