Otsego Habitat For Humanity Home Applications Now Open
Otsego County Habitat Humanity, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping low income families get affordable housing has opened up applications for families in the county. The period to apply will remain open until June 2, 2019.
For families wanting to become a "partner family" with Habitat For Humanity in the hopes of receiving a low cost home, there are certain criteria to follow:
- a need for housing
- a willingness to partner with Habitat
- must meet income/credit guidelines
There will be a Homeowner Selection Information Session held on April 27 at 4:45 p.m. at the Habitat house currently under construction at McFarland Meadows located on Rt 205 in Oneonta. Families who are selected to partner with HFHOC will be assisted in completing the steps in purchasing a home, including the application for a low-interest mortgage. Local volunteers provide the majority of labor, so the homes end up being sold to partner families at very affordable prices. The whole process takes about two years from the time an applicant is accepted to the home’s completion. This allows time for partner families to prepare for homeownership and to complete required homeownership education, as well as time for a house to be built.
The applications and additional information can be obtained by emailing habitatotsego@gmail.com or by calling the office at 607-432-7874.
