Last night at the Otsego County Board of Representatives meeting in Cooperstown, not only was the 2020 budget approved, but the position of County Manager was approved by a vote of 11-2-1 according to AllOTSEGO.

Board member Danny Lapin, D-Oneonta, commented, “Our talents are hamstrung by a lack of coordination, a lack of planning, a lack of overall coordination." He went on to say “We have one of the larger road networks in our region, and yet we have no capital improvement plan to maintain our roads. We have millions of dollars in physical assets, and no capital improvement plan for our buildings. We contract with a number of organizations, but we have no point person monitoring their performance.”

Now that the position of County Manager has officially been created, there will be a transition committee assigned in January with the task of recruiting someone for the position.  That search is expected to take until next summer with the allotted salary for the County Manager at $150,000 per year.
