Oneonta has released Halloween guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to ensure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween this year. Along with that comes an announcement about the annual Halloween tradition of Main St. trick or treating at businesses.

Main Street Oneonta will be closed on October 31 to traffic from 1:00pm - 3:30pm to allow for social distance trick or treating at participating businesses. Many merchants and restaurants (with assistance of gloved and masked volunteers from the colleges) will be dispensing wrapped candy outside, in front of their establishments. This is a free, safe way to trick or treat, especially with young children. Remember, all participants should social distance from others and wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The CDC states that traditional trick or treating is considered a high risk activity in terms of possible COVID-19 spread, but one-way trick or treating whereby individually wrapped goodie bags are lined up for families to "grab and go" while continuing to social distance is a far lesser risk to participants.
