Oneonta To Celebrate Arbor Day With Events
According to a City of Oneonta press release, Oneonta will celebrate Arbor Day on April 27 with a tree planting ceremony at the Swart Wilcox Historical Park, along with other activities.
The tree planting ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and is an annual event which is part of a tradition to honor Oneonta as "Tree City USA" going back to 1986. Along with the tree planting, a demonstration on how to protect ash trees from the damaging emerald ash borer will take place at 11 a.m., following by an Urban Forestry Walk led by Jeff O'Handley, Program Director at the Otsego County Conservation Association. That walk will explore the wooded area around the Swart- Wilcox property. The Swart-Wilcox Historical Park is located on Wilcox Avenue in Oneonta. The public is encouraged to attend this free event.
If you would like a seedling tree, NYSEG will be providing free seedlings of white oak and rose of sharon (a flowering shrub).
