According to New York State Police at Oneonta, there have been several local reports of scammers are using email scare tactics to trick unsuspecting residents into giving them money. In one type of scam, you may receive an email with a demand to pay a Bitcoin ransom in order to keep your alleged sexually explicit videos from being sent to all your contacts. Don't fall for it by sending money since it's a scam!

Also, police warn not to click on any links in emails or on the internet unless you are certain of the source. If you suspect that an attempt has been made to scam you in some way, change your email and social media passwords and contact the New York State Police in your area or other local law enforcement.
