Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig has vetoed the city’s mask wearing ordinance which passed at a recent Oneonta Common Council meeting by a 5-2 vote, saying while he understands what the city council was trying to do, Herzig believes that the measure they passed won’t get the job done according to AllOTSEGO.

The mask ordinance contained the same mandates as in Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order signed back in April. Herzig says he does support implementing a mask ordinance unless the council can create one that targets areas of risk in an enforceable manner. With that said, the mayor says he will sign an ordinance that required masks in the business district.
