Determined to raise the vaccination rate among eligible children in New York State given that the majority of positive COVID cases are found in that group, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul is making sure the vaccine is easier to access by bringing it to where kids are.

The state is setting up 120 pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics across the state as part of its VaxToSchool campaign to communities. According to Hochul's Office, over the next 12 weeks, the State Department of Health will be connecting with localities, community-based organizations, and healthcare centers in communities to set up vaccine clinics.

Currently, anyone 12 and older is eligible to receive the vaccine, although children 12 to 17 can only get the CDC-approved Pfizer vaccine which comes in two doses. As we reported, it's looking like 5 to 11 year-olds will soon be able to receive the Pfizer vaccine as well. Trials for that have gone well in that age group and approval is expected soon.
