Today I tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, I’m vaccinated and boosted, and I’m asymptomatic. I’ll be isolating and working remotely this week.

A reminder to all New Yorkers: get vaccinated and boosted, get tested, and stay home if you don’t feel well.

As many of us are very aware, the coronavirus may have moved into the background of our daily lives, but it is still circulating with new variants coming out along the way. In fact, case numbers have been increasing in Otsego County recently. As of May 6, there were 47 new cases reported that day in the county. The actual number of positive cases is an educated guess at this point since most people are doing at-home testing and it's likely that not everyone is reporting positive cases.

Recently, Otsego County Department of Health Director Heidi Bond told me that widespread contact tracing is no longer but county health is still doing contact tracing when it comes to congregate settings like schools and adult homes. Meanwhile, in Delaware County, Public Health suspended reporting positive cases a while back so it's not known how many COVID cases there are in the county. Chenango County Dept. of Health has not been reporting positive case numbers either but you can get a sense of current positive case numbers in any New York State county with the New York State Department of Health COVID-19 Tracker.

In a nutshell, local case numbers are still low but on the rise. It's not a bad idea to wear a mask indoors in public places to protect yourself and others. To learn about COVID-19 vaccination clinics you can visit your county health department's Facebook page, but keep in mind you can access vaccinations at pharmacies as well for convenience's sake.
