It's time for a trip through the decades with rock and roll history on ZOZ.

On this day in 1967, the promotional film for the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye" aired in America on The Ed Sullivan Show, but was not broadcast in their native U.K. because of a musicians' union ban on miming.

In 1974, Elton John's "Greatest Hits" became his fifth album to hit the #1 spot in the U.S. The record was at the top for ten weeks and followed "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," and "Caribou."

 In 1988, Russian cosmonauts on Soyuz 7 a cassette of the latest Pink Floyd album Delicate Sound Of Thunder (minus the case, to reduce weight) and played it in orbit. This meant that Pink Floyd was the first rock band to be played in space. Members David Gilmour and Nick Mason were present for the launch.

In 1994 on this day, When asked when a reunion would take place, former Eagles members replied, "When Hell freezes over." When they finally relented and reunited due to financial pressures, they gave the album that title, and it went to the top of the Billboard album chart. The album consisted of live versions of earlier hits, as well as studio cuts of newly recorded material, and sold more than six million copies.

In 2009, Paul McCartney mentioned during an interview for the BBC that he thought of his concerts as a way to help him "revisit" other Beatles members, as well as his late wife, Linda. "If I'm doing songs by The Beatles, I obviously remember the sessions when we recorded," the singer said. "Similarly with John and Linda - in a way you're kind of in contact them again and it's sad, it's emotional.”

And 2012, Rod Stewart's cover of "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" became his first number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart since "Have I Told You Lately" in 1993.
