New York State Increases SNAP Benefits To 210 Million
As we continue to see the COVID-19 pandemic disrupt our economy, government officials realize that many New Yorkers are still struggling with food insecurity. The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance has announced a $210 million aid package to SNAP recipients until the end of the month.
Charitable organizations are trying to do their best to help fellow New Yorkers who are still struggling with the need for nutritious food. Food drives are happening just about every weekend and the government also sees the need to do its part.
The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced on Monday that New Yorkers who are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, will receive the maximum allowable food benefits throughout the month of April.
Parents who are struggling to feed their families can breathe a sigh of relief with the additional benefits they will be receiving. According to OTDA, Households that are already receiving the maximum allowance, or who are close to receiving the maximum allowance, will receive additional funds of at least $95.
Households will see an additional $30 or more per person during the month of April. An additional $30 for food may seem trivial to some people, but a family of four could certainly benefit from the additional $125 they will see in SNAP benefits for this month.
When the COVID-19 pandemic first began, no one could have known the devastation it would take on so many families. There are a lot of people who are still unemployed and these additional funds will help them feed their families until they can recover physically as well as financially.
