New York Citizen’s Actions Credited for Controlling COVID-19
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state is approaching a level where coronavirus fatalities are perhaps not eliminated but are very few.
He says there were 56 COVID-19 deaths in New York on May 30 and hospitalizations are dipping overall.
Cuomo credits the actions of citizens social distancing, wearing masks and washing hands for making the change from 800 deaths overnight on April 12 to 56 on Saturday and from 3,400 hospitalizations in mid-April to 191 on May 30.
Officials say nearly 24,000 people in the state have been killed by the virus, but that the true count is likely higher. The state's figure doesn't include another 5,800 deaths that New York City officials are attributing to the virus in that city.
Over the weekend in Broome County, there were 7 additional cases bringing the total to 554 with 43 deaths attributed to the coronavirus.
Tioga County saw three additional cases from May 29 bringing the cases to 142 and 21 deaths. Chenango County had two additional positive tests for the coronavirus for a total of 132 and 5 deaths while Delaware County remained unchanged at 73 cases and 4 deaths.
In the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, Bradford County reports 45 cases and 3 deaths, Susquehanna County 109 cases and 15 deaths and Wayne County 119 cases and 8 deaths.
