We all know how important a good night's sleep is but now it turns out that it's more important for women than men.  Researchers from Duke University studied the effects of sleep deprivation on both men and women and as a result concluded that women are more emotionally and physically impacted than men if they don't get enough sleep.

Sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus says: "In this particular study, women had more depression, anger, and hostility early in the mornings when they weren't getting the same amount of sleep that they normally get. When they have problems falling asleep, staying asleep, that seems to have a dramatic effect."

You said it Doc!  I know that I do not handle lack of sleep well at all.  My husband on the other hand, seems to take it in stride and not even remotely feel it physically or mentally like I do.

Here's the kicker ladies:  the study found that physically, sleep deprived women were at a much higher risk for heart disease and depression as well as inflammation in the body which can lead to pain.  So needless to say, a good night's sleep is not only important for well being and feeling good but for good health!
