The fire that heavily damaged the Upturn Industries machine shop in Bainbridge on Thursday was found to be caused by a lightning strike, according to published reports.

There were 51 lightning strikes in the immediate area of the Upturn Industries building at the Bainbridge business park Wednesday night, with one strike apparently triggering a power surge.

Fire investigators found signs of arcing in a breaker box at the plant.

Roughly 60 percent of the building on Whitney Way is still standing but it's unknown still if any of it is salvageable.
