You live in New York State, and love has found its way into your life. Here is a potential problem -  money can play a major part in your relationship. A recent study looked into how income differences are affecting the love lives of New Yorkers across the state.

In the Empire State, 16% of us are bringing home about the same paycheck as our partner. Then, close to a third of New Yorkers are the big earners while the rest are making less. That could make for an uncomfortable money talk with your partner.

Believe it or not, 58.3% of New Yorkers are on the lookout for a partner with a big bank account. Okay, I can believe it. It seems like finding a soulmate isn't the only dream – unless they are dreaming about money.

How about the gender angle. 1 in 12 guys in New York State aren't thrilled about the idea of their partner out earning them. I thought it would be higher because men place their importance on what they can provide for themselves.

Honesty seems to reign supreme in the Empire State, as 83% of New Yorkers spill the beans about their incomes to their partners. I just hope that they aren't showing off because honesty is important in any relationship.

It's not all smooth sailing in the love-and-money department. The study showed that a third of couples are fighting over finances. Love makes the world go 'round, but money can stir up a storm too. Remember, it's okay to have money as long as money doesn't have you.

It looks like 2 out of 3 New Yorkers believe in divvying up expenses according to what each person brings in. What are your thoughts about that? I think it depends on how soon that you have that conversation.

Don't rush it, if it's meant to be then it's meant to be, especially when it comes to finances. Here is a good thing to remember: Money can be replaced, time can't. Choose wisely - and that goes for your partner as well.
