Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and Others to Play Texas Hurricane Benefit
An all-star lineup featuring Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and others is set to perform at a huge benefit for hurricane victims in Texas.
Dubbed the Harvey Can't Mess With Texas Benefit Concert, the show is set for Sept. 22 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. Also featured are Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Leon Bridges, Edie Brickell and house band Asleep at the Wheel. Charlie Sexton, a longtime member of Bob Dylan's band, will serve as musical director.
Their performances will be broadcast live at 7PM on 11 TV stations around the state, and each station will have phone banks set up to take donations. An hour of the benefit will also stream everywhere on YouTube.com/TexasStrong from 9-10PM CT, the Austin American-Statesman reports. During the stream, Google will match donations up to $500,000, according to Rolling Stone.
Tickets range from $30 to $199, and go on sale at 3PM CT today at RebuildTX.org, with all proceeds going toward the Rebuild Texas Fund. This newly created nonprofit is sending 100 percent of the donations toward relief efforts. Administrative costs are being covered by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and the OneStar Foundation.
“This fund was created to help rebuild all of the communities, big and small, that have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey," Michael Dell said in a news release. "We will be rebuilding for years to come.” “For us, this is personal,” his wife Susan Dell added.
Others set to appear include Matthew McConaughey, Renee Zellweger, Dan Rather, Luke Wilson, Ryan Bingham, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Mexican pop duo Ha*Ash.
