Hartwick to Show Autism Film Following Temple Grandin Appearance
Hartwick College's Center for Student Success will be screening a film, "The Business of Autism," followed by a Q&A with Director Stephen W. Mackey and Stella Spanakos, '78.
This will take place on Thursday November 21, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the Shineman Chapel House at Hartwick College.
“This Business of Autism” is an expository documentary film about the economic and societal benefits of employing young adults with autism.
The film centers on Spectrum Designs, a custom screen-printing and embroidery business in Port Washington, NY; 75% of the company’s employees are on the autism spectrum.
“This Business of Autism” focuses on the acquisition, renovation and launch of Spectrum Designs’ new production facility, which will triple its production and staffing capacity, and addresses the positive impacts of developing profitable businesses while leveraging the unique capabilities of adults with autism.
Spanakos, co-owner of Spectrum Designs, and Mackey, the film’s director, will be on hand to introduce the film and conduct a Q&A session.
The screening of the film follows by a day the appearance of Dr. Temple Grandin.
