Casting for James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is in full swing as this week we've already seen Glenn Close and John C. Reilly added to the cast or be in "serious negotiations" to join the project. The latest news is that Karen Gillan, 'Doctor Who''s Amy Pond, has signed up to play one of the film's villains.

This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, and little else is known about Gillan's part, other than that she will be one of the antagonists. But it suggests she will be working with Michael Rooker's Yondu and Lee Pace's character. And as Zoe Saldana is also in the film, it's likely that the two will fight each other because that's how Hollywood works.

Gillan is coming off of a three-season run on 'Doctor Who' where she played the Doctor's companion Amy Pond, and became a fan favorite. Gillan currently has a film in post-production and another filming, but this is her first big Hollywood movie. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is looking to start shooting in late June, which means most of the cast should be coming into place shortly. The film is set to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
