Grisly Duanesburg Details: Mom was Alive as Medics Tried to Save Child
One week ago, a terrible nightmare rocked the Capital Region
One week ago on Wednesday, first responders rushed to a Duanesburg home in response to a 911 call placed by a man who told dispatchers that he "stabbed his family and he did not know why."
In one of the most horrific murders ever to take place in the Capital Region, 47-year-old Nelson Patino is accused of stabbing and killing his wife and 5-year-old son, injuring his other child, a son age 2.
Words can't express how much my heart hurts for the family of Alexandria Bustamante Gomez and her two children. Her one son, only 2-years-old, lost his entire immediate family in one night. He's 2. He has no mom, brother, and his father (if you can call him that) will likely be locked away forever for what he has allegedly done.
Grisly new details outline what first responders witnessed upon arriving to the scene
According to a report from News Channel 13, court documents say that Gomez was alive when first responders arrived. The documents also point out that while she was unable to tell responders what happened, she was able to tell them there were two children inside the house.
Those were some of the last words that Gomez would ever say, as she would succumb to her injuries a short time later, dying at Albany Med.
When first responders located the 5-year-old in the house, he was already lifeless or really close, and they tried like hell to save him. According to the report, paramedics tried like crazy to save the young boy's life, administering CPR for 10 to 15 minutes before they stopped.
Imagine what that must have been like. On second thought, maybe you shouldn't. No one on Earth would ever want to trade jobs with those first responders, or any of them for that matter.
Most people, including myself, keep asking "why?"
What triggered this Duanesburg man to allegedly take a knife to his wife and small children? One day I'm sure some lawyer will try to explain it to a courtroom, but it will still never make sense.
Imagine being so angry, so full of rage and hate and pure evil, that you do what Patino did - allegedly taking a knife to your wife and 2 small children. It's unfathomable, one of the worst crimes ever committed in the Capital Region.
Our heart goes out to all the first responders
I can't help but imagine what those first responders witnessed when they arrived at the scene. I don't know most of it, just what the court documents outline but it's more than I can stomach.
Imagine rushing into the house to see a gravely wounded woman with precious few breaths left in her lungs, a 5-year-old barely clinging to his life, and another younger child also with stab wounds. All this while the alleged killer was still inside the house - or at least was inside the house a few moments prior.
One week after one of the most horrific crimes ever committed in the Capital Region I still can't fathom it. My heart goes out to the family, the community, and the first responders who witnessed something so awful, sadly it will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
All we can hope, for the sake of the family, is that justice will be served.
