I love the following quote by Henrik Ibsen, "A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one deed."  I find that to be so true.  We usually remember even small acts of kindness shown to us.

What got me thinking about this whole concept of doing others a good turn was a news story I read this morning about a woman who risked her job to help a child in need where she works.  Dianne Brame, who is a school cafeteria worker at Hudson Elementary School in Missouri, noticed that a fourth grader usually had a plain cheese sandwich for lunch, a standard meal given to children who can't afford the school lunch.  Brame, would sneak the child the regular school lunches out of the goodness of her heart.  Unfortunately when her employers found out she was sneaking school lunches for this fourth grader, then gave her two choices, either take a demotion and be moved to another school or lose her job all together.  Brame opted to get fired only because she didn't have a vehicle to get to the other school job.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending.  When people in Brame's community found out about her act of kindness and how she was treated by the school employing her, there was public outcry which resulted in getting her reinstated in her old job.

So keep those good deeds coming, not just during the holiday season because you never know when you'll need a helping hand.  Helping others, inspires others to do the same.  When was the last time you did something kind for a stranger?  When was the last time a stranger did something kind ( i.e. let you in, in heavy traffic or let you go ahead in line at a store?)  for you?
