GMU School District Opening The Door To Free Healthcare

Imagine all children receiving quality, free healthcare at a clinic right in their own school. This has become a reality for students in the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton School District who will be celebrating the opening of its Bassett Healthcare School-Based Health Center and GMU Raiders Apparel Store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Tuesday, September 7 at 5:00 pm at GMU.

The new health center is being dedicated to former New York State Senator Jim Seward who helped to get the needed funds to establish this important facility that will provide free healthcare for all of its students - PK - 12 grade.

This wonderful opportunity for GMU's students to get free healthcare reminds me of my childhood, growing up in the Gilbertsville School District where all students received a free, annual physical from a local doctor in private practice. He would come each year to the school to conduct student physicals. This is even better! What a great addition to the school. Plus, having a store at the school that sells school apparel just fosters school pride and a greater sense of community.

All GMU students and their families are invited to the Open House, which also will feature a free chicken dinner, a T-shirt giveaway from the GMU Raiders Apparel Store.
