Otsego County has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to serving up a full banquet of arts and culture to its residents and thousands of visitors.  One of our great treasures is the Glimmerglass Opera.
From its humble beginnings to its present day role as one of the leading opera companies in New York State, Glimmerglass is part of the charm, and fun that makes our county so wonderful.  Not to even mention that it is also an economic engine component to our tourism business.
One of the great leading lights of Glimmerglass Opera has now passed away.  Paul Kellogg has been with Glimmerglass from the beginning and his passing has left many sharing great memories of this towering figure in our community.  Even the New York Times, in an obituary reporting on Paul's death, referred to him as a great "opera impresario."
His beloved Glimmerglass family issued this statement upon his death:
"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Paul Kellogg, Glimmerglass Artistic General Emeritus. He was a beloved and visionary leader in the arts. His extraordinary artistic sensibility, his warmth and charm, and his commitment to humanistic values made him an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact. He will be sorely missed by his friends, colleagues and the whole opera community."
We join with our friends at Glimmerglass Opera Company in remembering this great man, and we thank him for his contributions to our area.  To view more on this story visit the Glimmerglass Festival Facebook page by CLICKING HERE.
