If ever there was a day to hug someone, then today's the day since January 21st is Hugging Day.  Strangely, some people don't like hugs-mostly grumpy people.  I think those people need a hug the most. Hugs are so beneficial that if you are not a hugger, you just might change your mind.

According to Psychologytoday.com, here three benefits of hugging:

  1. Security: many studies show that people innately find touch to be reassuring.
  2. Positive Feelings.  When we receive a hug, our body releases the hormone oxytocin which elevates feelings of attachment, connection, trust, and intimacy. It just feels good.
  3. Better Health.  When we're hugged, our heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of the harmful stress hormone cortisol are lowered.

So get hugging, even if it means just cuddling up with your cat.  It's good for you and for the one being hugged.
