General Electric has filed a notice with the state, planning to lay off about 200 salaried employees in its Schenectady facility by the end of the year.

The layoffs will affect so-called white-collar jobs at the GE steam turbine and generator plant. They have a reported 1,500 workers.

The announcement comes after GE announced the closure of a factory in Fort Edward near Albany. About 200 workers will lose their jobs there. The company said that plant was noncompetitive and will move operations to Florida.
