Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara, who chases the biggest waves he can find, ended up on a giant swell back on February 1st in Praia do Norte, a tiny coastal village about 60 miles north of Lisbon, Portugal, where he climbed aboard a wave that has the world all agog. This wave is much bigger than it looks on the video and in fact could be bigger than the wave he rode in 2011 to get into the Guinness Book World Records for largest wave ever surfed, at 78 feet. That 2011 ride is still recognized as the biggest wave ride.

This latest wave that McNamara rode back in February is thought to be as much as 100 feet high. The jury is out, so to speak on that wave and experts have yet to weigh in on how big they think it really was. There’s no doubt though, that was one HUGE wave! See for yourself.
