First Ever Cash Mob Comes to Oneonta

The first cash mob ever comes to Main Street Oneonta on Tuesday afternoon.

Mike Kleszczewski organized the event and explained what is a cash mob and how it helps local businesses.

"People are coming together in the community and voting with their dollars," he said. "They come together in one place, at one time and spend $10-20. It has to be an independent and locally owned business. It stimulates the Main Street economy that way."

Twenty-two businesses nominated themselves for voting and 432 people voted through Facebook for the winning business. Shakedown Street earned 199 votes and will be the recipient of the cash mob.

The first Oneonta cash mob event will meet this afternoon at 5:15 on Main Street in front of the connector to the parking garage.
