Edmeston Burglary Suspect Flees; Deputy Chase Ends in Arrest

In a New York State Police press release it was reported that on July 13, 2020 at 4:34 p.m., patrols from the New York State Police at Richfield Springs observed a vehicle leaving the scene of a burglary on County Route 20 in the town of Edmeston and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The operator of the vehicle, who was later identified Jesse M Souza, age 30 of Oneonta, NY failed to comply.

Souza led troopers on a pursuit through several Otsego County roads. The pursuit ended when Souza stuck the passenger side of an Otsego County Sheriff’s Department vehicle on Allen Road in the town of New Lisbon.

Souza was taken into custody after a foot pursuit. A passenger, Alexis T. Bowers, age 20 of Norwich was also taken into custody. Both were transported by Laurens EMS to Bassett Hospital for treatment and will be charged with the felony of Burglary in the second degree upon their release.

The Otsego County Deputy was treated at Bassett Hospital. The investigation is on-going.
