New York State Police at Margaretville and Andes EMS on Tuesday were called to the scene of an accident on State Route 28 in Andes that involved a Department of Transportation truck.
According to a NYS Police report, around 2:00 pm that afternoon, four DOT workers were in a truck gathering up cones and signs from a work zone area. As the DOT truck in the road to let two workers out of the truck to pick up one of the work zone signs, a vehicle with a 43-year-old male driver who was not paying attention, rear-ended the DOT truck which had two workers inside. The two workers outside the DOT truck jumped over a guardrail to avoid getting hit and both sustained minor injuries: one had a knee injury, while the other had a lacerated arm. The worker with the injured arm was transported by ambulance to O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.
The 53-year-old male driver of the DOT truck sustained a shoulder injury, while his passenger was uninjured. The DOT worker with the lacerated arm was the only one who was taken to the hospital.
