An audit released by State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli, which we reported on yesterday, claimed that the New York State Department of Transportation was lax in monitoring drivers with violations as well as with trucks that had been removed from service for repairs.

During an interview Thursday morning with DOT Commissioner Joan McDonald in Norwich, Chenango County, Jim Sargent of CNY News asked for her response to the claims made in the audit:

McDonald added that under the Cuomo administration fatal truck accidents have decreased by 30% since 2011, which she credits to the thousands of inspections by the DOT. She believes that inspections are the more important message and the more important use of DOT time.
